Byzantine Museum of Ekatontapiliani

The process of collecting the relics that you can see in this museum started at the beginning of the 20th century on the initiative of Archimandrite George Phil. Scaramangas (1867-1944). The collection includes original works that belonged to the church for centuries but also relics that were collected from other churches of Paros.

The first collection was originally housed in the cells of the ground floor of the north wing of Ekatontapiliani. It was known as the Byzantine Museum of Paros  and it was put together by archaeologist Irene Varoucha Christodoulopoyloy (1896 - 1979). When George Skaramangas died, the museum also closed as he was the temporary curator of the antiquities. Later the collection was moved into the three cells of the upper floor of the south wing of the church and the "Byzantine Museum of Paros" opened its doors to the public again. However, after the death of the Bishop, the museum closed again.

In 1967 and then again in 1980-1981 many of the relics were preserved at the Center Antiquities of the Archaeological Service. In April 1993 a part of the exhibition was available to the public again while the new exhibition was inaugurated on May 21st, 1996 during the celebration of the 17th Centuries of Ekatontapiliani.

In the museum you can see paintings, woodwork and vestments, the wooden sculptured epitaph of Ekatontapiliani and some silverware.
